The Kai bandana is special. Kai wears it to support his meowy as she navigates the world with Hereditary Angioedema. Now your furry friend can join him in the cause. Teal and zebra print are the design of the Hereditary Angioedema awareness ribbon. Kai’s meowy has been feeling its affects for the past five years and was only recently diagnosed. Before treatment, the HAE has left her with constant stomach pain when she controls now with twice weekly shots administered into her stomach tissue. The blue side of the bandana represents the genetic part of HAE and the zebra print side represents the fact that, like zebras, HAE is rare and often unseen. HAE is a rare condition that causes painful swelling usually in the face hands or feet. In Kai’s meowy, the swelling is in her stomach. It’s a problem with the gene that controls the blood proteins called C1 inhibitor. Kai’s meowy doesn’t have enough of this proteins so fluid gets put into her stomach through tiny blood vessels. The swelling causes extreme pain nausea and vomiting. If it happens in the throat, it can make it hard to breathe. There is no cure for this disorder and more research is necessary to fully truly understand it.
We will be donating 50% of the profits for this bandana to The US Hereditary Angioedema Association. Their mission is to lead a nationwide advocacy movement that focuses on increasing HAE awareness and education, empowering patient access to suitable treatment, and fostering ground-breaking research that includes searching for a cure.
With this bandana, we want to raise awareness for this rare condition and help further research so help people like Kai’s mom get the treatment and support they need.
